If you're a Mac user and a fan of Star Wars Battlefront II, you might be wondering whether the game is actually playable on Apple Silicon – especially the newer M4 Pro chip in the latest Mac mini. The short answer? Yes – and it runs better than you'd expect.
I tested the game using Wine with the D3DMetal backend, running in DirectX 11 mode. I set the graphics to high settings and jumped into both campaign and multiplayer matches. Right from the start, I was impressed by how smooth the game felt. There were no major issues, no crashes, and loading times were fast.
That said, there were a few occasional stutters, especially in large open areas or when a lot of effects were happening at once. But it was nothing game-breaking — just minor hiccups that didn’t really interrupt the flow of the game.
One important tip: enable V-Sync. Without it, the Mac mini can get very hot during extended gameplay. With V-Sync turned on, the system stays cooler and more stable overall.
