First Impressions
Deathground launches cleanly with no major issues — the intro, menus, and settings screens load without hiccups. The overall presentation looks solid, and performance feels surprisingly good for a game that’s not native to macOS.
Even on Apple Silicon, the game handles lighting and atmosphere well, which really sells the tension and dark tone.
Performance on macOS
Tested on a Mac mini M4 Pro, macOS Tahoe, resolution 3440×1440 (ultrawide):
- High settings (With MetalFX/AMD FidelityFX) → around 60 FPS, mostly stable even in darker or fog-heavy areas.
- Ultrawide resolution works perfectly — no stretched UI or cut edges. The frame pacing is consistent, with only rare stutters when loading new areas.
Bugs and Limitations
- Mouse cursor stays visible during gameplay — same issue as in many Wine-based titles.
👉 You can fix this easily using StealthPointer, which properly hides the macOS cursor in fullscreen.
Conclusion
Deathground runs surprisingly well on macOS through CXPatcher and D3DMetal.
With a few small tweaks, you can expect a smooth experience at 3440×1440 resolution and around 60 FPS on High settings.
If you enjoy survival horror and want to see how well Apple Silicon handles intense stealth and atmosphere-driven gameplay, Deathground is a solid example that modern Unreal-based titles can perform great on macOS.
